Cult. When the offering (such as a betel nut, tobacco, some of the first harvested rice) is given, it can then be taken by a spirit (busew). The spirit takes the offering but leaves an image so that it looks like the offering still remains. Unless, one is possessed by a spirit oneself, the spirit is invisible. The souls (gimukud) of relatives now deceased can also partake of this offering.
